A high-speed projector with a delay of only three milliseconds can achieve a speed of 1000 frames per second.

A research team of scientists from the University of Tokyo and Tokyo Electronics Corporation has created a high-speed projector with a speed of up to 1,000 frames per second and a delay of only 3 milliseconds (0.003 seconds).

Named DynaFlash, this projector is actually a new projection mapping system that tracks the high-speed motion of objects. Its most prominent features are high frame rate and low latency. It can quickly adjust the image projected on it according to the position of the object, and the lag is only 3 milliseconds.

According to the Physicist Organization Network, this high frame rate performance is achieved through a device called Digital Microlens (DMD). In addition, the entire system includes a set of high-brightness LEDs and a special digital optical processor (DLP). Unlike ordinary projectors, DynaFlash not only projects light, but also measures the surface of the object to obtain information such as the height and angle of the surface protrusion. Based on this data, the digital optical processor in the projector will correct the projected image in real time, all within 3 milliseconds.

Projector Point, a British video equipment supplier, said that the University of Tokyo has created the fastest projector ever. This projector, which can reach 1000 frames per second, is 41 times faster than the average frame rate of current movies.

Researchers say the technology means that projectors may no longer need to rely on static targets such as curtains, which will greatly expand the potential applications of projection technology. In addition to being used in home entertainment and some business occasions such as games and movies, this technology will provide more possibilities for projection mapping, augmented reality and 3D holographic projection.

Tokyo Electronics said the projector will be introduced to the market in the summer of 2016 under the original brand inrevium.
