Japan's latest carbon fiber production process: 10 times faster

According to the "Nikkei Shimbun" report, a team of Japanese Toray, Teijin, Mitsubishi Rayon, and the University of Tokyo recently developed a new carbon fiber production process that is 10 times faster than conventional processes.

It is understood that Japan's carbon fiber production accounts for 60% of the global market share. The team developed a new raw material polymer that was easy to process and sought to improve the heating method and simplify the production process. It is reported that the new process can reduce energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions in the production process by half.

Carbon fiber is a fiber material that has a carbon content of 90% or more after it is heated at a high temperature. The team developed propylene fibers that are not easily melted at high temperatures, eliminating the need to prepare for melting.

The traditional process uses a furnace for heating production, and the new process uses electromagnetic waves to directly heat the fiber, shortening the heating time while reducing energy consumption. (Author: Ice)
