Varel International has introduced its line of sealed rolling jet cone bits designed for underbalanced drilling, the A-Force. This series of drills uses the latest cone technology and advanced materials to increase the drilling speed, drill guiding ability and life of underbalanced drilling. This series of drills can be used in underbalanced drilling operations in a variety of media such as air, atomization and foam.

The A-Force series of drills use new sealed rolling bearings to withstand higher temperatures and loads. The teeth are processed using Varel's patented High Energy Grinding (HET) process, which allows the carbide material to have the required cutting structure and hardness rating for underbalanced drilling. In order to isolate the excessive thermal energy generated in the drill bit during drilling, an insulating ring is installed between the sealed bearing and the inner bearing to reduce the operating temperature of the drill seal and thereby prolong the service life of the seal. A conical gland is also installed inside the A-Force drill bit to better cope with pressure fluctuations and maintain optimum sealing position and shape.
