Whether summer fruit trees are suitable for laying mulch

Although the root film used for fruit trees can help raise ground temperature and reduce water evaporation after watering, thereby increasing survival rates, it is not suitable for use during the summer season. The main reason is that as temperatures rise in summer, the heat from the soil under the film is not effectively released. Instead, the agricultural film absorbs more heat, which can lead to root burning and suffocation, ultimately causing the tree to die—especially in newly planted fruit trees. Moreover, once the moisture around the roots is depleted, the presence of the film prevents the soil from coming into contact with rainwater, which can hinder root development. Therefore, it is generally not recommended to use such a film during the summer. If you still choose to use it, the film should be removed before the tree has fully established itself or when temperatures become too high. A better alternative during the summer months is to use grass mulch, which helps retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and promote healthier root growth. This method is more sustainable and beneficial for the long-term health of the fruit trees.
