In the coming decoration season, wooden doors have become a key element in home improvement. In Qingdao, numerous manufacturers offer finished wooden doors, with products sourced from various regions such as Jiangsu, Sichuan, Hubei, and Guangdong. However, due to the lack of clear industry standards and consumer awareness, many issues have emerged in the market, leading to frequent complaints. To address this, the Qingdao Municipal Administration for Industry and Commerce recently released the "Qingdao Wooden Door Sale Contract" model text, aiming to bring more transparency and protection to consumers.
One common issue is the lack of proper contracts between buyers and sellers. Ms. Wang, for example, ordered a set of wooden doors without signing a formal agreement. The merchant verbally promised to include installation costs and hardware in the price, but later demanded extra fees, leaving her in a difficult situation. Without a contract, she had no legal recourse and was forced to pay the additional amount.
According to Chang Yi, director of the Laoshan District Industrial and Commercial Bureau, many merchants use self-drafted contracts that contain unfavorable terms for consumers. These contracts often omit important details about materials, installation, and after-sales service, creating hidden traps. Some even mislead customers by using expensive wood names to justify higher prices.
To tackle these problems, the new model contract has been introduced, covering product specifications, quality assurance, installation, and after-sales service. It clearly defines the responsibilities of both parties and ensures that sellers are held accountable for any defects or non-compliance with environmental standards. This will help reduce disputes and protect consumer rights.
The contract was officially launched at the Qingdao Hi-Tech Industrial Park Decoration City, attended by officials, business representatives, and consumer advocates. The model text is currently being tested in Gaokeyuan Decoration City and will be rolled out citywide once it's fully matured.
This initiative reflects a broader trend in China, where standardized contracts are becoming more common, helping to reduce violations and improve market fairness. With better regulation, both consumers and businesses can benefit from clearer expectations and stronger protections.
