Dalian Heavy Industry has recently made a significant breakthrough by successfully launching China's first and longest-stroke marine crankshaft, the Mann Series 6G80ME-C 9.2, in Dalian. This achievement marks another milestone in the company’s ongoing efforts to develop large-scale marine crankshafts. Following last year’s successful development of the 11S90ME-C ultra-large butt-type crankshaft, this new product fills a critical gap in the domestic market.
The newly developed crankshaft is the world’s longest full-stroke model, measuring 11.175 meters in length, weighing 207 tons, with a full stroke of 3.72 meters and an output of 24,806 horsepower. It is the largest crankshaft in terms of both diameter and stroke globally. The product will be used in a low-speed diesel engine for a 250,000-ton ore carrier operated by Singapore Global Shipping Co., Ltd. The G-Series engines installed on the ship are the latest generation of eco-friendly, ultra-long-stroke low-speed diesel engines. By increasing the stroke length, these engines allow for larger propellers, improving efficiency and reducing fuel consumption.
According to an official from Dalian Heavy Industry, the extended stroke significantly increases the turning diameter, making machining more challenging. The 4.74-meter rotating diameter exceeds the capabilities of all existing crankshaft lathes in China. To overcome this, the company invested heavily in equipment upgrades and optimized processing techniques and tool selection. After extensive research and testing, all 760 test data points met the strict quality specifications set by Mann.
Previously, only three companies—Japan’s Kobe Steel and South Korea’s Doosan Heavy Industries and Hyundai Heavy Industries—had the capability to produce such crankshafts. Dalian Heavy Industry is now the fourth in the world and the first in China to achieve this feat.
In recent years, through independent research and technological innovation, Dalian Heavy Industry has mastered some of the most advanced marine crankshaft production technologies globally. Its product development capabilities cover the Mann series 50 and above, as well as the Wärtsilä series 52 and above, placing it at an internationally leading level. The company’s serialized production of crankshafts has gained widespread recognition, and its market share continues to grow steadily.
Silicon Nitride Ceramic Rod
The silicon powder is used as a raw material, and the desired shape is first formed by a usual molding method, and preliminary nitriding is performed in a nitrogen gas at a high temperature of 1200 ° C, and a part of the silicon powder is reacted with nitrogen to form silicon nitride, and the entire billet is then formed. The body already has a certain strength. Then, a second nitriding is carried out in a high temperature furnace at 1350 ° C to 1450 ° C to form a silicon nitride. A silicon nitride having a theoretical density of 99% can be obtained by a hot press sintering method.
