Fire Truck Transmission Preventive Maintenance

The gearbox is an important part of the vehicle powertrain, and its daily maintenance and regular maintenance are extremely important.

Transmission maintenance is divided into two categories:

1. Preventive Maintenance: Routine tests performed during daily use are mainly preventive.

2 , regular maintenance: According to the technical requirements of regular replacement of maintenance components to ensure the working performance of the gearbox.

Let’s find out today,

Transmission preventive maintenance.

First, transmission inspection

Focus on checking the transmission oil level as well as the transmission, circuit, and hydraulic line connections. Periodically clean and inspect the outside of the transmission, and the following conditions have been eliminated:

1 , screws loose or missing.

2 , oil leakage.

3 , tubing damaged or loose.

4 , the electrical line speed is damaged, loose or improper wiring. (Example: Line speed too close to high temperature parts)

5 , sensor connector loose or worn.

6 , vent plug or stain too much.

7. Is there any other liquid in transmission fluid?

Second, oil spill inspection

1 , identify the oil.

Correctly identify what oil is leaking (eg, oil, diesel, steering assist oil, etc.).

2 , determine the source of the leakage.

Clean up the oil, start the vehicle so that the vehicle reaches the normal operating temperature, and then stop and inspect to determine the leak point.

3 , visually detect suspicious areas.

Third, the tubing inspection

1. The tubing should be no less than 200mm away from the high-temperature parts of the vehicle (such as the exhaust pipe of the engine) . If there is insulation protection, the distance should not be less than 100mm . (See below)

2 , the direction of the oil pipe should avoid sharp bends or even "dead-bend" phenomenon, so as not to cause deformation of the tubing affect the flow of oil (see below). For 20# tubing, the bending radius must not be less than 300mm .

3 , when the tubing passes through the hole of the partition or frame, in addition to the hole to install rubber protection ring, but also in the vicinity to take a reliable fixation of the tubing to avoid tubing and hole friction (see below).

Fourth, dipstick inspection (cold)

Cold Inspection Procedure

The purpose of the cold check is to ensure that the oil in the gearbox is safe to operate before the hot check . The cold check temperature is 16 -49 °C .

(1) Park the vehicle on a level road, apply a parking brake and wedge the wheels.

(2) Start the engine and run it for at least 1 minute.

(3) switching to the N range, and the engine to idle at 500-800 revolutions / minute speed.

(4) Pull out the dipstick from the filler tube and clean it while the engine is idling.

(5) Insert the dipstick into the filler tube, pull it out and pull it out to read the oil level.

(6) If the liquid level is not within the “cold test” ( between COLD ADD and COLD FULL ) , add or remove some of the oil as needed to bring the liquid level to the middle of the “cold check” range.

note! ! !

Before removing the dipstick, remove the dirt around the end of the filler tube. Do not allow dirt or foreign objects to enter the gearbox. If dirt or foreign matter is mixed into the hydraulic system, it may cause abnormal wear of internal components, or cause the control valve to stick and block the passage.

caveat! ! !

The dipstick should be in the "not tightened" or loose position check the oil level, make sure that the dipstick extends into the bottom of the filler pipe.

Before checking whether the oil level meets the requirements, the transmission hot car inspection cannot be operated for a long time. To prevent inadequate lubrication damage the gearbox.

Five, dipstick inspection (hot)

Hot check program

The gearbox oil level rises with increasing temperature. In the hot state inspection, the oil must reach the specified temperature to ensure the accuracy of the inspection results. The hot inspection temperature is 71-93 °C .

(1) The gearbox runs in D gear and reaches normal operating temperature ( 71-93 °C ).

(2) Park on a horizontal surface, switch to N position, apply parking brake.

(3) Make the engine idle ( 500-800rpm )

(4) Pull the dipstick out of the filler tube and clean it while the engine is running.

(5) Insert the dipstick into the filler tube and insert it in the end. Then pull it out and check the oil level reading.

(6) If the fluid level is not within the "hot run" ( between HOT ADD and HOT FULL ) , add or drain fluid as necessary to bring the fluid level into the "hot run" range.

(7) To ensure the accuracy of the reading, repeat the operation at least twice. If the readings do not match, check the ventilation holes in the gearbox and make sure that the air vents are clean and free of obstructions.

caveat! ! !

Do not use containers that contain antifreeze or engine coolant for adding transmission oil. Ethylene glycol in antifreeze and coolant can cause clutch plate damage.
