Post-harvest management points

After controlling the harvesting of the vines, the grapevines continue to grow, which consumes a significant amount of nutrients from the tree. In addition to practices like topping and removing the tips, it is also effective to spray a 0.05% long-term solution that inhibits growth and reduces nutrient consumption. This helps maintain the health of the vine and ensures better performance in the next growing season. After fruit picking, it's important to apply foliar fertilizer to restore the tree’s vitality and enhance the photosynthetic capacity of the leaves. Spraying a 0.2% urea solution and a 0.2% dipotassium phosphate mixture every 10 days or so for 2–3 times can be very beneficial. Additionally, applying base fertilizer once a year is essential. Using over 2,000 kilograms of organic fertilizer per mu—such as compost, manure, or soil amendments—and adding 20 kilograms of calcium phosphate into the soil can significantly improve soil fertility and support long-term vine health. Pest and disease control is crucial after harvest. Grape leaves are vulnerable to diseases like downy mildew, powdery mildew, white rot, and brown spot. If not properly managed, these issues can cause premature leaf drop, reducing nutrient accumulation. To prevent this, you can use a 200-gram dosage of Bordeaux mixture, 50% captan WP diluted at 500 times, 65% zineb WP at 500 times, 70% thiophanate-methyl WP at 1000 times, and 40% dry wood WP diluted at 1000 times. Alternating these solutions and spraying them every 10–15 days helps maintain a healthy vineyard. In autumn, the orchard may have weeds that reduce soil permeability. After fruit picking, it's recommended to remove weeds and perform deep tilling to keep the soil loose and well-aerated. This improves water and nutrient absorption and promotes the growth of new root shoots. Finally, after cleaning up fallen leaves from the vineyard, it's best to combine this with winter pruning. All debris should be removed and either destroyed or buried to minimize the risk of disease carryover. This practice plays a vital role in maintaining a clean and healthy environment for the next growing season.
