Post-harvest management points

After controlling the harvesting of the grapevines, the vines continue to grow and consume the tree's nutrients. To manage this growth, measures such as topping and removing the tips can be taken. Additionally, applying a 0.05% long-term solution can help inhibit further growth and reduce nutrient consumption. Following fruit picking, it is essential to apply foliar fertilizers to restore the tree's vitality and enhance leaf photosynthesis. Spraying a 0.2% urea solution and a 0.2% dipotassium phosphate mixture every 10 days for 2-3 times is recommended. In addition, it's important to apply base fertilizer annually, using over 2,000 kilograms of organic fertilizer per mu, such as compost or manure. Adding 20 kilograms of calcium phosphate to the mix and incorporating it into the soil will also improve overall health. Pest and disease control is crucial after harvest. Grape leaves are prone to diseases like downy mildew, powdery mildew, white rot, and brown spot. If not controlled, these diseases can cause premature leaf drop and affect nutrient accumulation. To prevent this, you can use a 200g/L Bordeaux mixture, 50% captan WP diluted 500 times, 65% zineb WP diluted 500 times, 70% thiophanate-methyl WP diluted 1000 times, and 40% mancozeb WP diluted 1000 times. Alternating these solutions and spraying them every 10-15 days helps maintain healthy foliage. In autumn, it’s important to loosen the soil in the orchard by removing weeds and deep plowing. This improves soil aeration, water retention, and fertilizer absorption, promoting new root development. After cleaning up fallen leaves from the grapevines, it's best to combine this with winter pruning. Removing all debris and disposing of it properly—either through destruction or burial—helps reduce the spread of diseases and keeps the garden clean. Proper post-harvest care ensures that the grapevines remain healthy and productive for the next growing season. By managing growth, providing adequate nutrition, controlling pests, and maintaining good soil conditions, vineyard owners can significantly improve their crop quality and yield. Taking these steps consistently leads to stronger plants and better results in the long run.
