Hsinchu County's Welfare, Inc. has installed a solar-powered "solar flower" system near Hsinchu Station, designed to adjust its light-receiving angle based on the sun's position. This innovative structure uses solar energy to power large LED display screens, providing real-time messages and information.
The company expressed gratitude to the county government for their support in setting up the installation. The Public Works Department of the county office noted that Welfare, Inc. has been actively involved in solar energy and green initiatives. They also showed enthusiasm for participating in the Taiwan Lantern Festival, offering assistance and contributing to the event's sustainability efforts.
Located next to Hsinchu Station, the "solar flower" is capable of adjusting its orientation to capture maximum sunlight. Its design mimics a sunflower, with "petals" that automatically close during nighttime or rainy conditions.
The solar panels are arranged in a pattern that includes light sensors, allowing the system to adapt to different weather conditions. The installation is situated at the East 2nd section of Guangming 6th Road, near the 7th high-speed rail crossing in Zhubei City. It's positioned beside the HSR Hsinchu Station and close to the main exhibition area of the Lantern Festival.
At night, the "petals" of the solar flower close, signaling the end of the day’s operation. This feature not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also ensures energy efficiency and protection from the elements.
Hsinchu County Magistrate Qiu Jinglu highlighted that the 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival theme focused on "Anime, Science, and Technology," and Welfare, Inc. responded by offering green energy solutions. The "solar flower" became a key landmark in the Lantern District, combining public art with sustainable technology. It serves as a dynamic display, showing promotional content, videos, and lantern-related information through its LED screens.
