Hsinchu County's Welfare, Inc. has installed a solar-powered "sunflower" system near Hsinchu Station, designed to adjust its light-receiving angle as the sun moves across the sky. This innovative setup uses solar energy to power large LED display screens that showcase messages and information.
"Thanks to the county government for their support in allowing us to set up this installation," said the company. They have been actively involved in solar energy and green initiatives. The Public Works Department of the county office also noted that Welfare, Inc. is eager to participate in the Taiwan Lantern Festival and is willing to offer assistance.
The "solar flower" located next to Hsinchu Station can automatically adjust the direction it faces to capture sunlight more efficiently.
This unique solar panel structure is situated at the East 2nd section of Guangming 6th Road, near the 7th highway crossing in Zhubei City. It's positioned beside the HSR Hsinchu Station and close to the main exhibition area of the Lantern Festival.
The solar panels are arranged in a pattern with built-in light sensors that allow the system to adjust its angle for optimal sunlight absorption. For instance, during nighttime or rainy days, the "petals" of the solar flower automatically close to protect the panels.
The "solar flower" installed by Welfare, Inc. near Hsinchu Station closes its petals at night to conserve energy and protect the system.
Hsinchu County Magistrate Qiu Jinglu highlighted that the 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival, themed around "Anime, Science and Technology, and Humanities," was a perfect opportunity for Welfare, Inc. to contribute by offering green energy solutions. The "solar flower" not only serves as an artistic landmark within the Lantern Festival area but also functions as a power source for LED displays, showing event announcements, videos, and other important lantern festival information.
This project reflects a growing commitment to sustainability and innovation, blending technology with public art to create an engaging and environmentally friendly experience for festival visitors.
