After planting seedlings, a diluted human excrement solution (1:10) can be applied as a seedling fertilizer, and additional fertilization should be done once a week while training the vines. As the plants enter the fruiting stage, the amount of top dressing should be increased. If conditions allow, one application per harvest is recommended. During rainy weather, 5–7.5 kg of urea per mu can be applied. During the fruiting period, a 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution can be used for foliar feeding.
Water management is also crucial for autumn cucumbers. Overwatering or improper irrigation can lead to diseases, reduce yield, and cause premature harvesting. Therefore, irrigation should be based on weather conditions, soil moisture, and plant health. Watering should be done in the early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler, avoiding midday watering. Drip irrigation or "horse watering" methods are recommended to ensure consistent and efficient water supply. The goal is to maintain moist but not waterlogged soil. Regular monitoring and timely topdressing after soil shrinkage will help keep the growing environment optimal for cucumber production. With proper care, autumn cucumbers can thrive even under challenging conditions.
