In order to evaluate the sensitivity of *Chilo suppressalis* to various types of insecticides across different regions in Jiangxi Province, researchers from Jiangxi conducted a study using the spot method. They tested the susceptibility of representative rice pests to eight insecticides belonging to five major chemical classes.
The findings revealed that mites from Jing'an, Nanchang, and Ji'an rice-growing areas showed high sensitivity to triazophos, chlorpyrifos, rice flour, and certain other insecticides. Additionally, they exhibited strong responsiveness to butene fipronil (butyronitrile) and chlorinated benzamide. Among all tested agents, the mites displayed the highest sensitivity to acesulfame and the biopesticide avermectin.
However, when it came to chlorpyrifos and avermectin, the relative sensitivity index was relatively moderate—3.88 and 3.85 respectively. For the rest of the tested agents, the differences in sensitivity among the three regions were minimal, with relative sensitivity indices remaining below 1.5.
These results highlight the importance of regional variations in pest resistance and emphasize the need for localized pesticide management strategies. The study also underscores the potential effectiveness of biopesticides like avermectin in controlling *Chilo suppressalis*, especially in areas where conventional insecticides may be less effective. By understanding these patterns, farmers and agricultural experts can make more informed decisions regarding pest control, leading to improved crop protection and sustainable farming practices.
