Are you wearing a seat belt?

Since the introduction of the seat belt, countless lives have been saved. With the development of airbags, the safety of vehicle occupants has significantly improved. However, many people still fail to fully understand the importance of both seat belts and airbags.
Airbags are now a standard feature in most modern vehicles, designed to provide additional protection during collisions. But no matter how advanced the airbag system is, it cannot replace the seat belt. When driving or riding in a car equipped with airbags, it is absolutely essential to always wear your seat belt.
The design of airbags is based on the assumption that the occupant is already restrained by a seat belt. Together, the seat belt and airbag form the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), working in harmony to maximize occupant protection.
In a severe frontal collision, inertia causes the body to move forward rapidly. At this moment, the seat belt works to hold the occupant in place, absorbing some of the impact energy. Simultaneously, the airbag rapidly inflates, creating a cushion between the occupant and the vehicle's interior. As the occupant's upper body sinks into the airbag, the gas inside begins to vent slowly, further reducing the force of impact. The occupant is then gradually brought back to the seat. This entire process happens almost instantly, leaving the occupant with no control over their movement. In such situations, relying on the SRS is the only option.
If the seat belt is not fastened, the airbag can actually become a danger. Without the seat belt to restrain the body, the occupant may be thrown forward directly into the rapidly inflating airbag. The force of the airbag’s deployment can cause serious injury to the head, chest, and face. In this case, instead of protecting the occupant, the airbag becomes a source of harm.
That’s why it’s so important to always fasten your seat belt—no matter how safe you think the situation is. Remember, safety starts with you. Do you have your seat belt fastened?
