Research and Analysis on Improving the Reliability of Chemical System in Chemical Enterprises

In the early 1990s, many substations built by chemical companies in the 1950s and 1960s were reaching a critical stage for major upgrades. To encourage the adoption of vacuum circuit breakers, overhead cable installation, and high-voltage busway systems for efficient short-distance power distribution, a technical exchange conference on switchgear and cabling was held in Zhangjiajie in May 1995. Renowned experts such as Gu Nihong, director of the Electric Power Research Institute under the Ministry of Electric Power, delivered presentations on the status and future development of 35kV and lower circuit breakers. Deng Changsheng, a senior engineer from the Shanghai Circuit Research Institute, discussed cable structures and related accessories. Representatives from Jihua shared their experiences in upgrading old transformer stations, while Dahua introduced new methods for cable laying and the use of high-voltage busways. To further advance electrical technology within China’s soda ash industry, two national conferences were organized: one in Dalian in August 1995 and another in Yangzhou, Jiangsu, in April 2002. These meetings focused on the protection of electrical equipment against corrosion, moisture, and dust in alkali plants, as well as the modernization of lime kiln loading systems. It was decided that low-voltage vacuum contactors would be suitable for frequent starting equipment like lime kilns, enhancing operational efficiency and safety. In January 1996, an electrical technology exchange meeting was held in Guilin to promote insulation improvements for high-voltage switchgear and the application of heat-shrinkable materials in substation insulation. Companies like Tianjin Boan Electric Insulation Material Technology Development Co., Ltd. and Changchun Heat Shrinking Materials Co., Ltd. presented these innovative solutions. Given the long-standing issues with insulation failures in chemical plants, these technologies were warmly received by attendees. Another significant event took place in September 1997 in Dalian, where a national conference on electrical technology for large-scale fertilizer plants was held. The focus was on the localization of electrical equipment and the implementation of maintenance procedures. Based on China's current manufacturing capabilities, it was concluded that domestically produced switchgear could meet the needs of chemical fertilizer projects. If a large plant were introduced, its substation equipment could be fully domesticated, reducing dependency on foreign suppliers. Finally, in December 1997, a technical seminar on capacitance current tracking compensation devices for power supply systems was held in Zhuhai, Guangdong. Zhuhai Jinhong Electric Company presented a patented technology developed by Shanghai Jiaoda University: an automatic tracking compensation system for arc suppression coils. Over 90% of participating enterprises found this technology effective in reducing capacitive currents, lowering over-voltage levels, and improving the reliability of their power supply systems. This marked a key step forward in enhancing the stability and efficiency of electrical infrastructure in the chemical industry.
